Beginner’s Throwing Class

All curriculum in this course includes demos and hands on assistance.

Pursing Membership?
Class attendance provides the supervised independent studio experience required for membership certification and is expected for students pursuing membership.

What you will learn:
Beginner level wheel throwing.
Week 1: Introduction to hand building and basic overview of clay bodies and stages of the process
Week 2: Throwing 1
Week 3: Throwing 2
Week 4: Trimming
Week 5: Glazing - including multiple methods for applying glaze
Week 6: Throwing refinement and intermediate throwing demos
Weeks 7: Surface design methods
Weeks 8: Wrap Up

How to make and decorate a ceramic basket utilizing multiple design techniques.

Please note that the playtime is intended for independent practice rather than formal instruction. During Wednesday sessions, priority is given to students enrolled in that evening's class.

Community tools, 25 pounds of clay, and glazes.
What to expect:
Classes begin with a short mindfulness exercise and then transition to a 20-30 minute demo followed by open studio time.
During open studio, instructor is available to offer hands on assistance, intermediate and advanced demos, and help you execute your design vision.
Questions and exploration outside of the standard course curriculum are always welcome. If you see something you’d like to try, just bring an image and Serenity will walk you through how to achieve it including demos and outlining process steps!
Available add ons:
Additional clay is available for purchase at a price of $40 per 25 pound bag. Prices include glaze and firing fees.
Repeat students may apply for open studio access. Open studio requires a certification and an additional $125 per course.
Participants must be 16 or older.
